Amit Khilosia
Amit was at Lloyd’s in various roles for 35 years starting in 1989 in the Finance and International directorates in a team responsible for Central and South America and the Caribbean. Shortly after, he became Regional Executive MEA & India. In this role, he initiated Lloyd’s first engagements with the Indian Regulatory Authority to improve Lloyd’s market access and oversaw Lloyd’s licence and representative in Israel.
His primary focus soon became Africa when he led a project that defined Lloyd’s trading arrangements in South Africa as well as actively managing Lloyd’s other licenses in Africa. Amit relocated to South Africa to establish Lloyd’s South Africa and served as Managing Director until July 2013 and on the board as a non-executive Director until 2017. Whilst in South Africa he also served as a director on the boards of the South African Insurance Association, Fire Protection Association of Southern Africa and Intermediaries Guarantee Facility Ltd.
In 2013, Amit returned to London to take up the broader role of Lloyd’s Regional Manager for Africa enabling him to focus on raising Lloyd’s profile in the region, developing closer market relationships and Lloyd’s market access initiatives in Africa.
He was promoted to Lloyd’s Regional Head in 2019, Africa and became Non-Executive Chairman of Lloyd’s South Africa, which led to him restructuring Lloyd’s SA to deliver operational efficiencies and optimal performance. Most recently he has led negotiations with the Regulatory Authorities to ensure the sustainability of Lloyd’s licence in South Africa. Amit negotiated Lloyd’s trading rights and improved profile and market access in Egypt and Mauritius and negotiated bespoke market access for Lloyd’s in Morocco resulting in the establishment of Lloyd’s Casablanca. He developed Lloyd’s Africa strategy which saw new market entrants such as AXA, Parsyl and more recently Africa Specialty Risks, the first African focussed syndicate at Lloyd’s.
Amit supported and managed Lloyd’s legal representatives in Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia and Zimbabwe and has also fostered and maintained close ties with key players in the African (re)insurance markets for over 25 years.
